The East African Community (EAC) has a huge need for healthcare development. Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi have jointly constructed in 2010 a 180 square meter integrated market of goods, labor and finance for a population of 142 million. Governments in the East African region are expected to invest more in health care. The Kenyan government currently spends 5% of its GDP on healthcare. According to government data, per capita spending on health has increased from $17 (in 2003) to $40 (in 2010), an increase of 235%. The Kenyan government has developed a 20-year plan (2010-2030) to develop healthcare services in Kenya.
